DBS offshore wind farms demonstrate dedication to workforce development at skills workshop

Dogger Bank South (DBS) offshore wind farms ran a “People and Skills in the Supply Chain Workshop,” on Tuesday 3rd March 2026 in Beverley. This event brought together 30 supply chain employers and companies involved in hiring, training, or developing talent in the offshore wind sector to help drive the ongoing skills conversation for the industry’s future and to address vital workforce challenges within the offshore wind supply chain.

Recognising that approximately 90% of the workforce required for offshore wind developments is sourced from the supply chain, the developers of DBS - RWE and Masdar - are committed to collaborating with supply chain companies and skills stakeholders to grow and future-proof the talent pipeline.

Keynote speakers from Pentagon Marine, alongside Humber Marine and Renewables provided valuable context, setting the scene for participants and focusing on opportunities for supply chain companies in the offshore wind sector. Attendees discussed key topics including funding, training, diversity and inclusion, upskilling, and future workforce planning. Input from the workshop has been collected anonymously and will help inform a comprehensive report. The report will be shared with participants and wider industry stakeholders to help ensure the sector is equipped to deliver the next generation of offshore wind projects.

Graham Wright, supply chain manager for the DBS projects said: “The supply chain is the backbone of offshore wind projects. By investing in the skills and diversity of our workforce, we are not only strengthening our industry but also creating opportunities for communities in the Humber region and across the UK. This workshop is an important step in ensuring we have the talent and expertise needed to deliver a cleaner energy future.”

Reflecting our commitment to providing opportunities, the DBS team was pleased that one of our Year in Industry placement students, Emma Ashworth, took a leading role at the event by presenting on the topic of RWE’s approach to skills. Emma commented: “It was great to have the chance to be able to represent RWE and its approach to skills in front of key regional stakeholders and local supply chain companies. This was my first time presenting in this type of setting and I am grateful to RWE and the DBS projects for facilitating this opportunity.”

The DBS offshore wind farms, comprising DBS East and DBS West, are being developed by RWE and Masdar over 100km off the northeast coast of England in the shallow waters of the North Sea. Subject to consent, the projects would have a combined capacity of 3GW and would generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of around three million UK homes annually.
