Empowering Future Scientists: DBS Energizes Collider Fest 2025

Hull recently celebrated Science Week with a buzz at Collider Fest 2025—an event filled with exciting STEM activities and attended by the DBS education provider, UKSTEM. From March 13 to 16, participants in our workshops were immersed in a variety of hands-on activities designed to inspire curiosity and foster understanding of the offshore wind industry.

Engaging Activities:

The festival welcomed children and families, immersing them in interactive workshops where they built miniature wind turbines. These sessions unveiled the principles of aerodynamics and energy conversion as participants experimented with blade designs to analyse efficiency using real-time data. Enthusiastic facilitators ensured these workshops combined learning with competitive fun, emphasizing teamwork and problem-solving and engaged around 240 children each day with accompanying parents’ carers and family members.

Workshops and Learning:

Prior to the public event, four local schools engaged in ‘Supergrid’ workshops with 60 students each day. UKSTEM delivered these ever-popular sessions on behalf of DBS to broadened students' understanding of offshore wind.

A Community Impact:

Throughout Collider Fest, enthusiasm for learning was evident in both children and parents. Our hands-on activities offered insights into the growing offshore wind, leaving a lasting mark on the community and showcasing the transformative power of science education.
