DBS offshore wind farms update residents about upcoming onshore works

• Residents attended a DBS offshore wind farms information event at Beverley Memorial Hall on 10 September.
• The team outlined upcoming preparatory works, including construction of a new bell-mouth access from the A1079.
• Residents also received an update on the proposed £1.06 million community fund and were invited to share further views on the fund and the proposed next steps.

Representatives from the DBS offshore wind farms met local residents at a public information day held at Beverley Memorial Hall on 10 September. The event, which took place between 16:00 and 19:00, was attended by approximately 55 people.

Project representatives were available to answer questions and provide information about planned pre-construction preparatory works near the proposed onshore converter stations close to Bentley.

Preparatory works could start as early as October 2026 and will focus on constructing a bell-mouth access from the A1079. This will be undertaken in advance of the installation of a new access road connecting the A1079 to the converter station site, which is planned for early 2027. Construction of the converter stations themselves is expected to begin later in 2027. The start of each phase of construction will be communicated before site works begin.

During construction of the bell-mouth access, a 40mph speed restriction will be in place along the section of the A1079 where the bell-mouth work is being undertaken. This restriction is expected to remain in place for approximately 12 weeks. At either end of this 12-week period there will be a single lane closure overnight for up to seven days between 22:00-06:00. The road will remain open with appropriate traffic management measures in place.

The layby to the north-west of the site entrance will also be closed for the whole duration of the converter station works, which are expected to continue for approximately four years.

Community fund update

Visitors to the information day also received an update on feedback gathered through the DBS community fund consultation earlier this year. Copies of the consultation report and information about the proposed next steps for the fund were available at the event.

The project team continues to seek views on the fund and its proposed next steps until 30 September 2026. Residents can find out more information, share comments on the proposed next steps for the fund and express an interest in joining the community fund decision-making panel via the online form on the DBS website .

The community fund will be worth up to £1,060,000 and will be launched during construction of the converter stations.

Earlier in the day, project representatives also visited Heron Foods in Beverley, where they met members of the public and answered questions between 10:00 and 12:00.

The DBS offshore wind farms are being developed in a shallow area of the North Sea known as Dogger Bank, located over 100 km off the northeast coast of England.

DBS comprises two separate sites, DBS West and DBS East. Based on an estimated combined capacity of 3GW, the projects could be capable of generating enough electricity to meet the average annual needs of more than 3 million typical homes while supporting local investment, jobs and supply chains.
