DBS at Humber STEM

Humber STEM is a bi-annual event organised by local teacher Liam Johnson in partnership with Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University and sponsored by key businesses across the Humber region.

Our DBS Education Specialist attended the event and ran the ever-popular Supergrid activity, where Year 9 students are challenged to create the most effective set of turbine blades and deliver the highest power output over a 3 minute competition round.

Participant feedback demonstrates how valuable the event was to all participants:

• 100% of children shared that they learned something new.
• 100% of children feel motivated to explore STEM subjects further, especially into their GCSE studies.
• 100% of children expressed that they thoroughly enjoyed the day.
• Three out of four children stated they are now inspired to work for one of the companies leading today’s sessions.

This high level of engagement demonstrates the incredible value of having the hands-on, practical activities used by our team at the event. It’s great to have such overwhelming positive feedback from both students and teachers about the interactive demonstrations, problem-solving challenges.

We are looking forward to the next event in the region to inspire even more young people to work in the offshore wind sector in the future.
